Riverton Bridge closed after structural fault found during inspection
Commuters face long detours after engineers ordered the city's busiest crossing shut with immediate effect.

The Riverton Bridge, which carries around 40,000 vehicles a day, was closed to all traffic on Monday morning after inspectors identified corrosion in two of its main support cables.
Public safety comes first. We will not reopen the bridge until we are certain it is safe.
Buses are being diverted via the Mill Street crossing, and the city has asked drivers to avoid the downtown area during rush hour where possible.
