City council approves record budget with major boost for public transit
The $1.2bn spending plan passed 7–4 after a marathon late-night session.
Riverton City Council approved its largest ever budget in the early hours of Monday, including $180m for new bus routes and an overhaul of the light rail network.
This budget invests in the Riverton our children will inherit.
Opposition councillors argued the plan relies too heavily on optimistic tax revenue forecasts, and warned of cuts later in the year.
